Mission
Do we have a mission? You can bet your sweet kernel extension we do.
Our mission is to educate the masses. To get every OS X user up to speed on the power (and the glory) of the system they're using.
We want to obliterate the misery known as Windows. We want to help people feel secure to use their computers and to use the Internet.
We believe that the Internet represents an immense power for good that must not be stopped. We feel the way to this goal is to make people understand that the choice of platform - along with the educated use of said platform - is crucial.
We see OS X as threatening to devolve into just another 'MacOS' and we want to do what we can to prevent it. We respect the Unix underpinnings and the NeXTSTEP veneer on top. We want to see both proliferate and extend beyond their current demographic.
As professional developers we see the extension of Objective-C as essential to the evolution of software development on the planet and we strongly protest any and all attempts to keep its use proprietary.
As the main use of Objective-C to this day is with the NeXTSTEP classes which are the cornerstone of OS X, we strongly encourage their widespread use as well.
At the end of the day it is the world of business that determines if a platform is to survive. We therefore see it as essential that this technology be made available on a widespread basis as soon as possible.
Our own efforts with the AppleCore Project serve to determine what technologies and methods may be used by businesses to further their own aims in the application development sector. We feel we've already made significant progress in this field and today have knowledge of how these technologies can best be brought to advantage for corporations daring enough to show interest in them.
Unfortunately the Apple security scandals of late have made it appallingly apparent that Apple are neither equipped nor inclined to deal with serious matters the same way as true 'open source' projects. Alternative platforms such as Ubuntu loom brightly, its project creator Mark Shuttleworth showing the selfless initiative people once thought Steve Jobs capable of.
