Got a match?

The Apple developers CD contains a very impressive program called FileMerge. An offshoot of Doug McIlroy's classic diff, FileMerge shows you in very fancy graphics exactly how and where two chosen text files differ.

But we don't always want to compare text files, and we don't always want to know how they differ, only if  they differ - and very often we would love to compare complete directory hives - hierarchical trees of folders - but are at a loss as to how we can accomplish this task.

An enhancement of its Win32 sibling, Rixcomp for OS X compares not only single files, but complete directory hives, and does this with an amazing ease, as the logic for such crunching is actually built into - but rarely exploited by - the Cocoa API.
